Collyer's College is a large modern sixth form and adult education college in Horsham, West Sussex. The IT infrastructure at Collyer's is impressive with computers just about everywhere including the visitor reception area, dedicated computer rooms, the library and just about every classroom all supporting the studies of the thousands of students. Obviously with so many students and teachers collaboration and document storage is important and SharePoint naturally forms part of the IT infrastructure. Ballard Chalmers have been appointed to provide technical support and enhancements for SharePoint and the associated SQL Server systems. This SharePoint system has been running efficiently without incident for a number of years now.

A London Borough has opted to undertake the creation of a new public Intranet site in SharePoint 2010. This is a pioneering project that includes full integration with the GIS (Graphical Information System) and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems. The residents and businesses of the borough will be able to search for businesses, schools and other organisations in the borough and well as gain access to council tax, business rate, and social services facilities, including making requests and payments. The site will be fully content editable. This will most likely be the first SharePoint 2010 public sector public Internet site live in the UK. Ballard Chalmers have been appointed by the principal IT service providers to carry out the SharePoint development for the site including providing the authentication, GIs and CRM integration layers.

Building Adhesives: BAL is the leading brand of professional tiling adhesives and grouts. BAL's project teams were managing a number of simultaneous projects and needed a way to manage the documents and data for the projects and increase team member collaboration. They looked to using SharePoint. Their IT department had the skills to install SharePoint but needed assistance in how to best configure the system. They also needed guidance on how best to modify the team site template to suit the needs of their projects and to carry out user training on the resulting system so they can take best advantage of it. Ballard Chalmers were appointed with the assignment to assist with this project; this involved working with IT on the setup of the system and on the necessary user training. A mentoring approach was taken to the work so as to ensure that Building Adhesives could continue to manage and enhance the site themselves going forward.
