City of London Livery Company - SharePoint Intranet and Event Management System - Document Management News

This City Livery company client identified a requirement to enhance the 'community' feel of its membership base, through improved access to information about the Company, improved communication with fellow members and improved communication on Company events.

The key points were firstly, that it had to be a flexible platform to accommodate ongoing development based on user feedback and a stakeholder-based nature of the project, meaning that changes and varied requirements would be present, and secondly, it had to be easy to access and use for hundreds of members of all ages and with a wide range of IT aptitude.

Ballard Chalmers worked with the key internal staff and with the clients IT infrastructure supplier to develop a SharePoint-based members' website via a series of meetings, phone calls, trial sites and reviews, all under the guidance of the IT Focus Group, a cross-section of members and senior staff who helped to steer the project in the best direction to satisfy the membership's needs.

Event management delivers details of forthcoming events to members' email accounts, integrating with their local Microsoft Outlook calendar and allows responses and information that are unique to each member and events.

Security is provided by an SSL VPN device to allow easy 'any time or place' access only to authorised users.
